Making Chocolate at Krakatoa

Taste the richness of the archipelago with an award-winning chocolate company that empowers small holder farmers and fights for environmental conservation.

• Provided: Chocolate bars made by you, chocolate during the tasting, mineral water
• Location: Krakakoa’s factory and store at Jl Raya Seminyak No. 5

THE EXPERIENCE

Situated in the bustling Seminyak shopping area, Krakakoa’s modern yet quaint headquarters is home to a chocolate factory and small coffee bar. As a “farmer-to-bar” craft chocolate company, Krakakoa has provided training to nearly 1,000 farmers living in the sensitive border areas around national parks in Lampung, Sumatra and West Sulawesi. Founded on a mission to improve the livelihood of Indonesian farmers and sustain cacao agriculture, Krakakoa supports farmers in becoming masters of their trade so they can deliver the exceptional beans that go into Krakakoa chocolate.

Participants are first introduced to the beautiful story behind Krakakoa while learning about the various elements that contribute to the flavour development of cacao beans. Next, you will melt and stir the chocolate that goes into making your own bars before decorating them with your choice of toppings.

While you wait for your bars to set and harden, you next will be guided through a delicious tasting session of Krakakoa’s distinct range of chocolates while learning how to taste and judge the quality. The experience finishes with the second part of the chocolate-making session, in which you remove your bars from the molds and wrap them up to take home.
