MUST DO

9 things you MUST DO while you are in Seminyak!

Seminyak, with its humble beginnings, has evolved into Bali’s most sophisticated and upscale beach resort area throughout the years, yet still strikingly comes short of significant local attractions that typically dot Bali’s other popular destinations, such as Ubud for instance.

Nevertheless, amongst all the modernity and glamour, there are a handful of Seminyak’s interesting facets to discover, most within walking distance or an easy taxi ride away from your luxury resort or villa. These following attractions also serve as great spots to escape to from the dining, shopping and traffic frenzied scenes of this developed area.

1. Lazy day by the pool at Potato Head Beach Club.

Potato Head is the perfect venue for it – infinity pool, beach front, cocktails, sunshine & beautiful people. This is a very popular spot so you want to get here as early as possible (like 10am early) to secure a cabana or at least put your name down for one at reception. It’s worth the wait, the Cabaña is yours all day with your own waiter for cocktails and nibbles (they have amazing cheese platters and the passion fruit and vanilla vodka cocktail is delicious). Each cabana comes with a min spend of 500.000 IDR. You will make more than one visit to this place as the sunset is also spectacular here. Have a few cocktails while enjoying the view, after sunset have a meal at one of three restaurants – ‘Potato Head Bistro’ (Bar food), ‘Lilin’ (serving tapas style East Asian dishes and ‘Tapping Shoes’ (French fine dining). The restaurants concave around the 500 square meter lawn in the centre of the venue which extends out to meet the beach-facing infinity pool.

2. Overindulge in cheap daily massages

There are so many cheap massage places in Seminyak however, they are quite hit and miss. ‘Carla’s Spa’ is very consistent. The massages are great at dirt cheap prices. There is no website but it’s across the road from Seminyak Square (Jalan Kayu Aya, Kuta Utara, Badung). It’s very easy to find so just ask any taxi driver or a local. If you are happy to pay a little more for massages, Bodyworks is a very popular one. Make sure you book in advance; it’s about 332.000 IDR for a full body 1hour massage. Great reviews are written about Dancing Fingers, a full body massage cost approximate 447.000 IDR for 75 minutes. Lastly, massages on the beach are still good for 50.000 IDR for 1hour.

3. Get your hair done at Rob Peetoom Hair Spa Bali

4. Get your tan and chill out at Mozaic Beachclub

Much more quiet and more isolated than Potato Head but the best place to chill out and get your Bali tan. Experience the laid back beach front setting at Mozaic Beachclub. 5. Shopping in boutiques in Seminyak

Seminyak's shopping scene is filled with exclusive fashion boutiques and lifestyle brand outlets. Rows of stores featuring designer labels, homeware and furniture, handicraft and contemporary artwork line Jalan Raya Seminyak (also known as Jalan Basangkasa) and Jalan Petitenget. Glamourous tropical collections feature ethnic and chic designs, natural and silk fabrics adorned with beading and sequins in strong deep colours – perfect for Bali’s tropical climate and any summer day around the world.
Goldentip! Get a customised butter soft leather skirt, jacket, bag or…wardrobe! Visit Har at Inni Kulit (Jl Basangkasa No 9X Seminyak Kuta, Bali) for all you custom made to order leather goods. Their quality of work is excellent and their prices are laughably cheap!
